Incredible onsen experience with welcoming staff.

A combination of hits and misses

The attentive staff made my stay enjoyable, providing helpful recommendations and even packing a lunch for my early departure! The private onsen was a serene escape after long days of exploration.

The onsen’s temperature could have been warmer, and I found the breakfast selection a bit lacking in variety, with the Japanese option outshining the Western.

We had a fantastic time enjoying the beautiful onsen and the delicious breakfast with local ingredients. The relaxing public bath was a great way to unwind after a long day of exploring. The only thing we wished for was a few more soft lights in the room to create a cozy atmosphere—definitely pack some warm socks for roaming around! 😊

The Yudanaka Tawaraya Ryokan offers an exceptional stay with incredibly spacious accommodations featuring a Japanese-Style Superior Room, great onsen facilities both indoors and outdoors, and outstanding service from the attentive staff. Dinner is a highlight, with a carefully crafted meal offering local ingredients that elevate the dining experience. The staff prepared a thoughtful packed lunch for my early departure, which was greatly appreciated.

The family-run ryokan is cozy, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations. Meals were okay, but I've had better elsewhere. The onsen experience was nice, but I've visited cleans and cooler spots in my travels. While the service was attentive, I expected more from a place with such rave reviews.

Getting to Yudanaka can feel like a trek, especially since the only train is the Nagano Dentetsu line which doesn't take JR Pass.
